Cancer accounts for more than 7.6 million deaths worldwide each year on average. It is the leading cause of death among disease and illness, with some form of it affecting nearly every one in three women and one in two men at some point in their lives. Understanding the devastating effects of cancer helps to bring cancer awareness to light, spreading the word of charities and research programs available to help with curing the disease altogether.

Spreading the word about cancer and cancer awareness is done through walks, runs and other sponsorship events or benefits for those suffering with the illness themselves. It is possible to also spread awareness of cancer by using social media networking to promote causes and to encourage family, friends and loved ones to donate to the cause, which helps to fund research to find a cure. Increasing awareness of cancer helps to ultimately gain attention from the masses, which allows more funding for researching better medications or, ultimately, a potential cure.
